At Bebi Electronics, we started actively working on a solution to the problem during the cyclone season of 2000 in Vava'u, Tonga.

After extensive experiments and testing, we proved that the simple resistor used in most off grid LED lighting products would destroy an ultrabright LED in less than 2 years. As a solution, we developed a low cost active current regulator. This regulator allows our marine LED lights to operate at full intensity within 'normal' battery voltage limits but without a negative impact on the lifespan of the light.

As a long term (1981) live aboard and cruising sailors (1986), we KNOW that ALL electrical and electronic items on a boat need to be fully waterproof. Drawing on past employment experience for a manufacturer of materials for rocket nozzles and re-entry warheads, we developed the resin mix that is used for sealing our products. In our efforts to produce a durable product, the next possible 'weak link' is the attachment method to the yachts wiring. Except for the Kalokalo with pins (which are gold plated), we use fully tinned wire pigtails on our Rinorino reading/spot lights so that the connection to your boats wiring can be made completely water and corrosion proof.

We have learned that some people DO prefer the ease of installation into existing sockets. Effective 9 Febuary 2007, we are offering the Rinorino with gold plated pins for easier retrofitting our L.E.D. light replacements into halogen 2 pin (G4) sockets.

Since we never rest, beginning in November 2008 we started producing our lights available in a true 'warm white' LED colour, which some people prefer.

For comparison, here is our 'warm white' LED Rinorino Katakata on the left, and the 'pure white' LED Rinorino light on the right.

We have been using the Doe light for our own vessel, 'Shangri-La', for the past 6 years and are completely satisfied with the product. The first two Rinorino were installed in our v-berth and is a marked increase in light over the Doe model. ^*The Rinorino, who is DazzeLED by our LED lights, is what is known elsewhere as a firefly or lighting bug. The word literally means 'blink', as the light given by the Rinorino at night, unlike our products, blinks on and off. There are many varients on the spelling and pronunciation, with over 4 varients on the south shore of Vanua Levu alone! Rua ni Rinorino simply means 'A Pair Fireflys', even though the literal translation would be 'Two Of Firefly'. 'Katakata' is cheating you on your language lesson: It simply translates to 'hot'. To be correct, we would say 'rinorino katakata lailai vulavula' for a 'warm white firefly'. With the understanding that this is way too many double syllables for most people, we've just shortened it down a lot!
